5 things I’ve learned about Mindset

I think that it’s safe to say that over the last 2 or 3 years the idea of manifestation and improving mindset has really made a breakthrough into mainstream media. While I still think that there’s a lot I have to learn about mindset and the power of thoughts, I wanted to share 5 things that I’ve learned over the last several months about mindset and how with small changes to my everyday life I’ve seen huge changes in my mindset and how I live my life on a daily basis.

1. Meditation WORKS.

When I began learning about mindset, the number one most recommended way to improve your mindset was meditation. I absolutely SUCK at staying focused or being still, and quiet for more than 5 minutes at a time, so the idea of meditating for 20 plus minutes wasn’t something that I thought that I could do. When I started my research on the different types of meditation, and how to begin this journey I discovered a format of meditation that I found has really been working for me. 3×3 meditation is the format of focusing in on your breath for 3 minutes at a time, 3 times a day. 2. Write down EVERYTHING.

I know in the last couple of blog posts I’ve been preaching about how important writing is, but seriously there is SO much power in writing things down. From your dreams, to how your day is going, a list of places you want to travel – whatever it is that you want in your life – write it down. Over the first week of January I was able to sit down and write out my goals for the next 3 months, 1 year, 3 years and lifetime thanks to my new passion planner (pictured below). It really put into perspective what is important to me and where my energy will be focused over the next year. Along side the planning I do in my passion planner, I keep a journal of thoughts, song lyrics and more. It’s my favourite way to de stress, and do something other than look at a computer screen.

3. Affirmations Everyday.

When I started on my journey of improving my mindset I started with reading a book called The Secret, through that book I learned very quickly the importance in speaking out what you want in your life. There’s a power in affirming your dreams out loud, every single day. Through one of my favourite apps called 5 Minute Journal, every morning and every night I am able to write down one affirmation that I repeat throughout the day. It’s a small change, but a change in my daily routine that I find helps draw my back to my goals, whenever I begin to get distracted.

4. Say Thank You.

Thank You, are probably the two most powerful words in the English language. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is to be grateful for every single thing that you have in your life. From the breaths that you take, to the clothes you wear, the blanket that covers you at night, having toothpaste to use everyday those are all blessings. Showing extreme gratitude for everything is one of the most important steps to changing your mindset. You do not need to thank God, if you don’t believe in that just aim to show gratitude for one thing everyday. One of my favourite things to do before I go to bed is thank God for one thing that happened during my day, not only does it over time help you appreciate how much you have, but it helps to end your day on a high note.

5. Be kind to yourself.

Changing your mindset, is not easy. I’ve been reading about this for over a year now, and from a lot of trial and error I was able to see what works for me and what doesn’t. IΒ stillΒ feel like I have days where I struggle finding the motivation to simply count my blessings, and other days I all I want to do is express gratitude all day. I’m still figuring it out, but I’m determined to stay on this path, because of the positive changes that I’ve seen in my life.

What are your thoughts on Mindset? Do you struggle keeping a positive mindset?
