Book Review: Beautiful Disaster by Jaime McGuire

Since the quarantine has given me so much more free time than I anticipated, I’ve decided that every Thursday I will be posting a book review as I plow through books over the next little while. So Here we go…

Rating: 3 out of 5.

“I can’t win with you. I can’t win with you! You say you’re done…I’m fucking miserable over here! I had to break my phone into a million pieces to keep from calling you every minute of the damn day–I’ve had to play it off like everything is just fine at school so you can be happy…and you’re fucking mad at me? You broke my fuckin’ heart!”

This book totally fell into my lap! A friend I used to work with gave me a huge bag full of books once upon a time ago, and this was among the many she gifted me. I picked it up a couple weeks back and honestly – couldn’t put it down. If you’re anything like me and adore a good love story, classic bad boy meets good girl then this is the book for you – hands down.

Abby Abernathy is a freshman at University when she attend an illegal fight in the bowels of her university, where she unknowingly catches the attention of fighter Travis Maddox (who us a Junior). The two from then can’t seem to stop running into each other, primarily becasue of the relationship between Abby’s best friend America, dating Shephley (Shep), Travis’ cousin and roommate. When the dorm showers break America and Abby move into Travis and Shep’s apartment off campus, causing the two to grow closer. From that point on Travis becomes attached to Abby, protective over her and demands that everyone give her the upmost respect – all while he barely respects any-other woman. While Travis brings home a new girl each night, Abby recognizes that Travis is trouble and agrees to only being friends with him. Or – at least tries

I don’t want to say anymore, as I don’t want to ruin the book for anyone who might be wanting to read it but it gets complicated, the story lines are anything but boring as the book progresses.

All in All, I would rate this book a 3 out of 5. I loved the story, the characters were believable, they felt like real collage students and I truly couldn’t put the book down – but in no way is the relationship between Travis and Abby a healthy relationships so if there are any pre-teens diving into this book, please do not expect this is the way anyone should treat you!!

If you’re looking for an easy read, something to get through in about 3 days, then I would recommend picking up this book, it’s available on Kindle, iBooks, Amazon Prime for digital download, and available online at Indigo/Chapters along with Barnes and Noble for curb-side pickup.

“He pulled my chin up so that I would face him. “I know you deserve better than me. You think I don’t know that? But if there was any woman made for me…it’s you. I’ll do whatever I have to do, Pidge. Do you hear me? I’ll do anything.”

Have you read this book? What are your thoughts on it?
